Described as "eclectic indie rockers sprinkled with desert dust", Calexico's musical sound is influenced by traditional sounds of Mexico and the south-western United States. The band's main members, Joey Burns and John Convertino, first played together in LA as part of the group Giant Sand. They have recorded many albums, and their 2005 release In the Reins, recorded with Iron and Wine, reached the Billboard 200 album charts.

As a band, Calexico is perfectly named: their music is a road trip to the cinematic imagination.
