Chloe Hooper is one of Australia's most promising young writers, having authored both a highly praised novel, A Child's Book of True Crime, and a prize-winning non-fiction book, The Tall Man: Death and Life on Palm Island. Hooper's novel is a dark debut set in Tasmania that grapples with the themes of sexuality, crime and punishment in a highly original way. The Tall Man: Death and Life on Palm Island explores the story of Cameron Doomadgee, his death in custody and its violent and controversial aftermath. The book has been a sensation in Australia, winning a host of prizes for the bold nature of its reporting, the sharpness of its insight and the quality of its writing. Typical of its reviews are the comments made by Peter Carey: "It is impossible to overestimate the importance of this book." Join Hooper in conversation with Paul Diamond.
